What matters

Five priorities for Harrison

These are not slogans. They are areas where council must ask better questions, make clear decisions and report progress to residents.

Wildfire and flood readiness

Wildfire, flooding and evacuation are serious public safety concerns. We have one route in/out and that must be protected. I will push for practical plans that identify the most urgent work, establish realistic timelines and clearly explain what has been completed or needs to be completed.

This includes strengthening wildfire defences around the village, protecting the road our community currently relies on and improving drainage around our village. With atmospheric rivers arriving more frequently, we need to be prepared.

Infrastructure we can rely on

Decisions about growth and spending must be based on reliable information about our water, waste water and storm drainage systems.

Council should understand the condition, capacity and long term costs of our water, sewer and storm drainage systems before approving major projects or additional development. Residents should be able to see the factual evidence supporting those decisions before they are made.

Protecting what makes Harrison special

The Miami River, the East Sector and Harrison's tree canopy are important community assets.

I will support the Miami River Stream Keepers and other practical measures to protect waterways and habitat, retain healthy trees and the canopy they provide, reduce wildfire and flood risks and restore damaged natural areas. Future development must respect Harrison's natural character.

Responsible growth

I am not opposed to development. I support development that fits our community and respects infrastructure capacity, evacuation needs, existing neighbourhoods and the environment.

I will promote businesses and enterprises that bring year round economic activity to Harrison and strengthen our local economy.

Development charges should be fair, transparent and based on defensible costs so they do not unnecessarily discourage appropriate investment.

Open, Transparent Local Government

Residents deserve to know what Council is considering before decisions are made, what it will cost and why decisions are being made.

I will push for major decisions to be discussed publicly whenever the law allows, reports to be written in plain language and commitments to be tracked until the work is completed.
